Another great collectable from Tenyo
I’ve known many magicians who just can’t see themselves performing a trick by Tenyo. I’ve always loved many of their effects, while many see them more like plastic toys. Fair enough. But many are incredibly clever and some are plain genius. And I think they can be a lot of fun in a casual situation. But I can honestly say if I was still a working magician, I would absolutely perform the Finale Piece at a professional show. Whenever you can do an effect that can speak to an important belief that can touch people and move them, then we magicians should do just that. I know that not all the tricks I do can accomplish that. Yes I can bewilder and amaze my audience. Make them curious and bring a little brief moment of wonder, but I am sure no matter how good I am, with four aces or some dice, that won’t touch a persons heart. The Mona Lisa can and does touch people. Many believe behind her faint almost undetectable smile that she holds a secret. Many wonder just who she was to DaVinci? We don’t really know, but most feel something when they see it in person. So I thought I would share a little bit of my routine that might explain why I think a simple Tenyo trick should find its way into your magic. Of course your way will be just as good as mine if not better.
I have always believed that each person comes into this life as a blank canvas. Every color, shape and texture is put on that canvas by our own hand with the decisions that we make. We can choose to create our lives to become a masterpiece. But it’s hard. And when we think we are getting close at times as we learn and grow, we have to keep searching for that missing piece that completes us. So after my spectators freely selects a random piece of a puzzle that remains face down. I pull away a cloth that reveals the Mona Lisa. Of course missing a piece. I explain that while she is still beautiful, it would not be on a museum wall or even a masterpiece with that single piece missing. As I point out they could have chosen any other piece that would not complete DaVinci’s masterpiece, they realize as they place the piece in the picture that they have the same ability to find the missing piece that will complete their life. About a month ago an audience member got teary eyed. It was not a she. It was a he. He said he stopped looking a long time ago for that piece, but now he is going to find it.
I know… pretty corny, but I really hope everyone can find their missing peace. And those of us that do magic can remind others to never stop believing in real magic.
Hi Steve, I love the Tenyo magic items, but even with this trick, which is great, you show so well how important it is to find a way to connect with people. People love to be seen, and to have someone undestand them. A good routine can add such a nice sparkle, make soneone think, laugh, or even work them up in to a frenzy! Your take is just beautiful! - Ron Teitelbaum
